Manasa Puja – Bhakti-rasämåta-sindhu

One brähmaëa, who was a great devotee, wanted to offer very brilliant service, arcanä, in the temple worship. But he had no money. One day, while sitting in a Bhägavata class, he heard that Kåñëa can be worshiped even within the mind. Since he had been thinking about how to worship Kåñëa gorgeously for a very long time but he had no money, he took this opportunity.

When he understood the point, that one can worship Kåñëa within the mind, he took a bath in the Godävaré River, sat underneath a tree, and within his mind, started constructing a very gorgeous siàhäsana, throne, bedecked with jewels. He then kept the Deity on the throne, and then started bathing them with the waters of the Ganges, Yamunä, Godävaré, Narmadä and Käveré. After this, he started dressing the Deity very nicely, offering worship with flowers and garlands.

He then started cooking paramänna, sweet rice. Because paramänna is taken cold, he wanted to test if it was hot. To test this, he put his finger in the paramänna, and his finger burned down. Due to this, his meditation broke. Even though, he was doing all this within his mind, his finger was actually burned. He was so astonished.

Meanwhile, Näräyaëa from Vaikuëöha, was smiling. Lakñméjé asked, “Why you are smiling?” To which He responded, “One of My devotee is worshiping Me like this. So send My men to bring him immediately to Vaikuëöha.”
